The "Right Start" for your Relationship

Are you engaged to be married or thinking about getting engaged? If so, it’s important to get your relationship off to the Right Start. At Fairview Village Church, healthy marriages are valued so highly that an in-depth premarital program, called Right Start, is offered two times per year – once in the summer and again in the winter. Right Start consists of:

  • 12 teaching sessions
  • 5 appointments with a “Mentor Couple”
  • 2 appointments with a pastor
  • a comprehensive personality compatibility test
  • several take-home assignments.

From beginning to end, the program takes approximately 4 - 6 months to complete.

So, who should take Right Start?

  • All engaged couples with wedding dates in the next year. Even though the program is offered twice a year, you should allow yourself enough time to complete the process prior to wedding day demands requiring your full attention.
  • Seriously dating couples considering engagement. Even though the course material is designed to prepare couples for marriage, those not yet engaged are encouraged to participate. The program will provide much insight into your committed relationship and may help with your decision to get engaged.
  • Anyone desiring to be married at Fairview Village Church or by a Fairview Village pastor. Since marriage is a covenant between the couple and God, the church is united behind a policy that requires the successful completion of Right Start for any couple that gets married here.

Like any program or class, participants will get out of it as much as they put into it. However, the following are guaranteed benefits of taking Right Start.

You will have the opportunity to discuss a wide variety of topics that affect marriage that most couples don’t think to talk over prior to the wedding but absolutely should.

  • You will discover areas of compatibility and disagreement in your relationship to make the transition to marriage smoother.
  • You will learn how to set appropriate expectations for sharing your life with your future spouse.
  • You will become equipped with tools for developing and maintaining a healthy and growing relationship.
  • You will gain the biblical perspective on marital roles and responsibilities, finances, conflict management, planning and building a family, healthy communication, and other topics.
